This is a
compilation of statistics based on fallen officers posted on this web
site. It is my way of showing you in simplest form the statistics of
officers that died in 2004 and were posted on
www.copadorer.com I think every one
should find it informative. Feel free to share it with your particular
agencies and departments. God Bless all of our fallen officers and in our
hearts they will remain.
CAUSE OF DEATH
Shootings-
19 officers died during domestic violence calls
12 officers died answering robbery calls
9 officers died in an ambush or execution
8 officers died serving warrants
4 officers died during a traffic stop
2 officers died by friendly fire
1 officer died of accidental self inflicted shot
63 officers in total died by gunfire
Motor Vehicle-
26 officers died in single car accidents
24 officers died in auto accidents involving someone else
11 officers died being struck by a drunk driver
6 officers died in motorcycle accidents involving someone else
2 officers died in single motorcycle accidents
1 officer died hitting a deer
70 officers in total died from motor vehicle accidents

8 officers died of heart attacks while assisting
2 officers died of heart attacks during training
1 officer died of heart attack while on bike duty

Notes of Interest:
Two officers died of heart attacks within 24 hours of each other while
assisting other officers.
North Carolina officer killed on very first shift in auto accident as a
passenger.
An officer in Washington D.C. died of a heart attack helping a little girl
chase her dog that ran away.
Two officers in separate situations were killed while a robbery was being
attempted on them off duty.
An officer died after being in a coma for 19 years after being shot in a
burglary call.
An officer had retired but was working one day a week when he was shot by
a drunk driver.
A Sheriff was on the scene of an accident involving his secretaries son,
who died. The Sheriff then died of a heart attack on the scene witnessing
it.
