This is a compilation of statistics based on fallen officers posted on this web site. It is my way of showing you in simplest form the statistics of officers that died in 2006 and were posted on
www.copadorer.com

CAUSE OF DEATH
Shootings-
11 officers died during a traffic stop
5 officers died during domestic violence calls
5 officers died answering robbery calls
5 officers died in answering a disturbance call
3 officers died serving warrants
3 officers were shot execution style
2 officers were shot during a foot pursuit
1 officer was shot accidentally by himself while drinking
1 officer was shot outside her own home
1 officer was shot in his mothers home
1 officer was shot by an inmate
1 officer was shot by a Corrections Officer
1 officer was shot during training exercise
59 officers in total died by gunfire
Motor Vehicle-
31 officers died in auto accidents involving someone else
9 officers were killed being hit by a car while standing in the road
during an assist
8 officers were killed struck by a car while directing traffic
6 officers were killed when their car hit a tree
4 officers were killed when they were rear-ended
5 officers were killed by a drunk driver
1 officer was killed while assisting in a robbery
1 officer was killed when driving while drinking
1 officer was killed when he stopped to move a dead deer
1 officer was killed when he hit a bull in the road
71 officers in total died from motor vehicle accidents
Heart Attack-
6 officers died of heart attacks during training
(doubled from 2005)
1 officers died of heart attacks assisting another officer
1 officers died of heart attacks during a foot pursuit
12 officers in total died of heart attacks

One officer was killed in his mothers home during a home invasion, he was

One officer was killed at the same time his wife was giving birth.
One officer died on his wife's birthday.
One officer died accidentally shooting himself while drinking on his

One officer died on his own birth date.
One officer was killed when a stove fell off a truck and was then hit by a
cement truck
One officer was killed when he hit a bull.
February was the worst month for deaths - 22 deaths.
12 officers had family members on the job as well.
19 family members total on the job.
