*2007 Statistics of Fallen Officers
This is a compilation of statistics based on fallen officers posted on
this web site. It is my way of showing you in simplest form the statistics
of officers that died in 2007 and were posted on
www.copadorer.com Every one should
find it informative. Feel free to share it with your affiliated agencies
and departments. God Bless all of our fallen officers and in our hearts
they will remain.
CAUSE OF DEATH
Shootings-
15 officers died during domestic violence calls
5 officers were shot during a robbery
3 officers were shot during a traffic stop
4 officers were shot by a co-worker
4 officers were shot by their own gun
2 officers were shot for retaliation
72 officers in total died by gunfire
Motor Vehicle-
51 officers died while in their vehicle in an accident
11 officers died when their car hit a tree
11 officers were ran over by another vehicle
5 officers were killed by drunk drivers
4 officers were hit by a co-worker
4 officers died in motorcycle accidents
82 officers in total died from motor vehicle accidents
Heart Attack-
8 officers died of heart attacks during training
Other-
2 officers died from falling
3 officers died drowning
9 officers died from disease or illness (tripled
from 2006 stats)
1 officer died from complications of illness due to Ground Zero
1 officers died while riding on an atv
1 officer was killed in a tornado
2 officers died from surgery complications
1 officer died from a bee sting
2 officers died in airplane crashes
1 officer died in a helicopter crash
1 officer died in a boat accident
5 officers died at war

No deaths listed for: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, North Dakota,
Rhode Island, South Dakota or Vermont
The length of time on job dropped 6 years from
2006 stats.
LENGTH OF TIME ON THE JOB
2 years on average - 21 officers died within their 2nd year on duty
Shortest Time on Job: 1.5 years (No officers died
within the first year)
Longest Time on Job: 37 years - Police Officer who was killed while
driving an A.T.V.
5 years or under on the job - 49 officers
6 to 10 years on the job - 37 officers
11 to 15 years on the job - 16 officers
16 to 20 years on the job - 18 officers
21 to 25 years on the job - 17 officers
26 to 30 years on the job - 8 officers
31 plus years on the job - 3 officers

Youngest: 19 year old male Auxillary Officer in New York City
Oldest: 82 year old Captain in Missouri
Under Age 25: 18 officers
Age 25 to 29: 27 officers
Age 30 to 34: 44 officers
Age 35 to 39: 33 officers
Age 40 to 45: 21 officers
Age 46 to 50: 18 officers
Age 51 to 60: 24 officers
Age 61 to 65: 4 officers
Over 65: 5 officers
GENDER OF LOST OFFICERS
Female: 9
Male: 180

9 Officers on the web site died off the line of duty.
*This total will always be greater then the number of national statistics
of officers deaths in 2007 -
some of the names listed on the web site were retired or disabled officers
that did not die in the Line of Duty.

2 wives were expecting births
72 known to be daughters
55 known to be sons
19 grandchildren lost grandparents
7 great grandchildren lost great grandparents
a set of twin sons and daughters lost fathers
1 officer had eight children, another had seven in their family

Notes of Interest:
4 officers were killed by children under the age
of 15.
One officer was a two time cancer survivor.
One officer had a granddaughter born the night before he died.
The social worker that was killed was the Sheriffs wife.
An officer that was killed by accident by a fellow officer, wife worked
for the dept and took the call.
An officer died when wheels from a semi truck flew off hitting him.
Chief of Police that died was the only law enforcement officer in town.
Officer was killed while driving in a funeral procession for another
fallen officer.
Two officers were killed while escorting the President of the United
States on two separate occasions.
One officer was killed while being robbed himself.
One officer had his two young daughters in the car with him and they died
also.
One officer was killed in her own home.
One officer died on his birthday. (This happened in
2006 also)
One officers was killed while his brother was assisting officers on the
scene.
Nine officers have family members also on the job.
April and May were the worst month for deaths - 21 deaths each month.
