Joshua was accidentally killed by his three year old son. He had just gotten home from his shift and laid his gun on the kitchen table.
His son got a hold of the gun and shot Joshua in the back. Joshua had just recently graduated from the

Dana was killed with Dana while answering a domestic abuse call. They were
killed upon entering the house. Deputies Tate and Coursen were dispatched at
4:09, and each arrived at the home within 10 minutes. At 4:28, Tate called back
to dispatch to say everything was OK. But at about 4:40, the dispatch office
received two or three calls that shots had been fired. Arrest of husband and wife
were made.

Robert was shot in the head while in the process of a routine traffic stop.
The suspect had a history of problems. While waiting to hear from dispatch
regarding license plate check Robert was killed. He was found by passer bys
on the ground next to the drivers side of his cruiser. Suspect caught. Tanner was with the
Muskingum S.O. for eight years. Robert leaves behind his wife.

Dennis was shot three tines - once in the head, once in the back and once in the
elbow. Dennis had been working off duty as a security officer for a private
dorm when he stepped outside to see two officers chasing a suspect. The suspect
had just been in a vehicle accident and shot two nurses while running from scene.
Dennis was wearing his uniform along with a bulletproof vest and his gun.

Jack was answering a call to an apartment complex. A man called in saying his family was killed by vampires.
During the struggle to arrest the suspect, he got ahold of Jacks 40 cal Glock and shot him in the head,
Jack was on life support but his family made the decision to take him off it. He died
20 mins later. He leaves behind his mother and father.

Dennis was shot to death by a Pagan gang member who vowed to take out a police
officer before going back to jail. Dennis noticed a suspicious vehicle sitting outside
of the home of the known suspect and when stopping to talk to the vehicle owner
the suspect came out of his home and shot Dennis one time in the temple. Dennis
was one of the most decorated officers of Upper Darby Township. Suspect caught after
being chased, rolled his car, currently hospitalized.

Lawrence was shot and killed with a 30/30 shot gun. He was at the home of
a woman whom had been trying to keep distance from her ex- boy friend. Lawrence
was finishing up paper work when the boy friend came back with the shot
gun and firing into the house. He was shot one inch below his body armor.
The boy friend then killed his girl friend and himself.

Michael was killed in a gun battle with a man who, while wounded himself, grabbed Michael's
gun and shot him with it. The suspect them took Michaels patrol car and drove himself
to the hospital. Michael was a 7 year veteran of the force.

Brian was en-route to his home with his shift ending in
15 minutes. He hit a horse that had gotten out of his pen and ran into the
roadway. The horse went airborne and landed on the top of his patrol car on the
driver's side, killing him instantly. He had worked with the Alabama State
Troopers for nine years. He leaves behind his wife, Denise and children Brian
Keith, Jr. and Leanna Denise.

when he was struck head on by another vehicle. He was highly decorated and held

happened near the end of training when a gas ax exploded. Thomas was a 24

"Woody" lost control of his car off duty. He left a two lane road and re-entered crossing
the center line in front of former Sheriff Pitre's vehicle. Pitre was treated and released.
Woody died at the scene, he was not wearing a seatbelt. He had been on the force for
four months. Three years serving as a dispatcher.

Hector was shot and killed while on a high speed chase. He had responded to a call from a bank
when three suspects tried to cash a check. As they fled Hector gave chase. When his vehicle
crashed in a ditch and he tried to approach the suspect they shot him. Hector had been with the three-person
department for just under one year. He leaves behind his expectant wife.

Glenn was shot in the head and chest while he tried to stop a car containing
several young men. He remained critically ill after neuro-surgery to remove a bullet lodged near his
brain and workmates had maintained a week-long bedside vigil alongside family
members. Glenn was to become engaged to his girlfriend Amanda during the Easter
holiday. Family members were with Glenn when he died.

Volunteer Fire Department. He was apparently walking to his police cruiser when the shot was fired. The suspect
was apprehended, the shooting was apparently a part of a vendetta of an officer running against Sam for political
office. Sam leaves behind his mother, a brother and two sisters.

Kristin was responding to backup another officer. She was killed when her patrol car struck
a tree. Her patrol car apparently went out of control on
the rain-slick roadway. Kristin was the first to die in the
line of duty since the department was founded in
1954. She was with the department for 8 months. She leaves behind her mother, father, grandfather, sister and her
fiancé.

Julie was guarding a male subject at the local hospital. He managed to escape from a male
officer on foot pursuit. Scaling a 10 foot fence, Julie pursued him he managed to get her
gun from her and threw her to the ground. The suspect then unloaded hers gun minus one
round. Julie was shot four to six times, with one of those rounds in the head.
She died at the scene. Julie was with the force for three years, was Rookie of the Year last
year and was featured on a recent episode of Fox TV's "COPS" series for her work in a
prostitution sting. Julie leaves behind her parents, two sisters and fiancé, she was engaged to a fellow police officer.

She worked in the department for 23 years, from 1969 to 1992. Kay entered the force a year after the first female patrol officers took to the

County Sheriff's Department. She was known as the "mother of the office". She leaves behind
four children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was looking
forward to the first birthday of a great-grandson on Sunday.

Joseph was responding to backup a fellow officer who did not acknowledge status checks
via police radio. The fellow officer had initiated a traffic stop several
minutes prior and his safety, or lack of safety, was not certain. The weather
was horrible, the driving rain and wind made visibility impossible at times. While enroute to
check on one of his brothers, Hanusey lost control of his vehicle and struck
several trees on the side of PA Route 611. He was a five year veteran.

Wayne and Susan perished in the interstate bridge collapse near Webbers Falls.
An out-of-control barge knocked out a 500-foot span of highway just as their
silver four-door pickup truck was making its crossing over the treacherous waters
some 75 feet below. Wayne was a 27 year veteran of the police dept. Susan was
an administrative assistant for the University of Oklahoma with the FAA/ATC Department.
Wayne had planned on retiring next year. Wayne and his wife Susan leave behind two daughters.

Robert drowned attempting to rescue a man who capsized a rowboat. He swam 75 feet out to
rescue the man and when he was about 15 feet from the boat he went under water and
never resurfaced. His body was recovered two days later. The man he was trying to rescue
was saved by other people at the scene.

Shane was killed by friendly fire when he and fellow deputies walked into a gang related home invasion.
They had no choice since the caller stated the mother was being hit with a pistol.

Richard was shot with his own gun, once in the hip and four times in the back of his head. He was
trying to subdue a man who was running around naked shouting obscenities and acting
violently. He had tried to stop the man with pepper spray but missed and his gun was knocked
to the ground. The suspect picked up the gun, loaded it and shot Richard. He leaves
behind his wife and two daughters.

Kevin was shot 15 times and ran over by a vehicle. Three males ages 22-23 had used a stolen pick up
truck in a burglary to steal guns. Kevin had witnessed the men transferring the guns from one
vehicle to another in a park. The men opened fire on him. Kevin was a thirteen year veteran.

to clear. Another vehicle hit their cruiser going 65-70 mph, striking the

Jessica was shot in the face and killed when she responded to an animal complaint.
As she exited her patrol car a man standing on the porch suddenly
opened fire on her with a shotgun, striking her in the face,
neck and stomach. She was able to return fire and wounded the suspect.
Although she was wearing her vest she suffered fatal wounds and
succumbed to her to wounds at the hospital. Jessica had been
with the agency for just under two years and leaves behind her husband.

Melissa died of a gun shot wound responding to a call of a woman having a gun. Even though it wasn't
her precinct, she knew the housing unit. The 60 year old woman with the gun
asked to go to the bathroom. She had the gun hidden between her buttocks and started
shooting at Melissa and her partner. The suspect was also killed.
Chris Russell
New Orleans, Louisiana
August 4, 2002
Age 35
Chris was shot and killed while responding to an armed robbery call at a bar.
He arrived on the scene, three suspects exited the bar and opened fire
on the officers before they even exited their patrol car, striking Chris
in the head. The other two suspects remain at large. Chris was assigned to
the 5th District and had been with the agency for five years. He leaves
behind by his expectant wife and 13-month-old child.

Age 31
Eric was shot and killed following a vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit.
The chase began when a state trooper made a traffic stop.
During the stop the suspect opened fire on the trooper and fled. The suspect's
vehicle became stuck in a field and Eric and the suspect exchanged
gunfire while still in their vehicles. The suspect then fled on foot and
continued to exchange gunfire as they pursued him. Both Eric
and the suspect were fatally wounded. Eric was with the dept
for four years and leaves behind his wife and two young children.

Kris was shot and killed when a bullet deflected off his radio and entered
under his body armor. The suspect that shot him was then killed by a Mexican
Police officer across the border. Kris died after an attempt to give him CPR. Kris was a native of
Cadillac, Michigan.

Hakim was struck by a drunk driver who was traveling at an extremely high speed.
The driver drove thru flare patterns and traffic cones before striking him.
He was killed instantly. Hakim had been on the job for 20 months. He leaves behind

Scott Stewart

Scott was shot and killed as he placed a suspect under arrest for illegally
possessing a handgun. He and his partner were answering a call regarding a
group of men gambling on the sidewalk. When they arrived Scott discovered
one man was carrying a concealed handgun. As he was cuffing the suspect
another man approached from behind and fired one shot at his head. He was
rushed to the hospital where he died several hours later from his wound.
The suspect fled the scene but turned himself in the following day. Scott
was assigned to the 9th Precinct and had been with the agency for five years.
He is survived by his fiance, also a Detroit Police Officer.

Tony was an Air Force Security Police Officer. He died as a result of his motorcycle being hit by a careless driver and the fuel tank
exploding causing 3rd degree burns over 50% of his body and several compound
fractures. He leaves behind a fiance, several family members and many good memories.

responding to the back up of another officer. Both vehicles were responding with lights and sirens.

In May 2000, Mary was shot in the line of duty. Mary sustained a shot from a .30 caliber handgun
in her neck and through the shoulders which paralyzed her. Today, over 2 years after the
shooting, Mary died. Prosecutors are looking at asking for the death penalty
for her assailant, who was found guilty and sentenced to prison for the shooting.
Mary was with the force for three years. She leaves behind her husband a
son and two daughters. Her husband is also a police officer with Dayton PD.

Steven suffered a fatal heart attack while attempting to arrest a man during a call.
He had responded to the man's home and the suspect began struggling with him.
During the attempted arrest of the suspect Steven collapsed. The man had a history of interfering
with police radio frequencies. His death was ruled as a homicide as a result of
the arrest. Steven was with the department for 29 years. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
Disdale Enton

Age 34
Disdale suffered a brain aneurysm while chasing a domestic violence suspect on foot and died as a result four days later. He and his partner pursued
the suspect on foot, jumping over fences and running through backyards. When they started walking
out of a backyard Disdale fell to the ground. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared brain
dead. He was removed from life support four days later and his organs were
donated for transplant. Disdale worked with the 113th Precinct in Jamaica, Queens and had
been with the agency for four years. He leaves behind his fiancee and mother.

Billy was shot multiple times and killed. He was assisting in a call for an arson
suspect that was threatening to burn his ex-wives house down. A suicide note indicates
the suspect was attempting suicide-by-cop. The suspect shot at Billy several times with two
hand guns. Billy was not wearing his vest. He was with the Department for 20 years.
He leaves behind his wife and two young children.

Sam died after his patrol car collided with another car. Witnesses saw him slumped
over his steering wheel shortly before is car plunged into the bushes of a local business.
In 2000, Simmons, a quiet but straightforward speaker, was elected to head the
office he had been a part of since he was 20 years old. He was essentially
hand-picked by former Sheriff Johnny Mack Brown, his mentor. Sam was with the
department for 29 years. He leaves behind his wife and two children,
ages 8 and 20.

deer that had just been struck by another vehicle. The deer was thrown into

Mark was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was reporting to an unfounded
report regarding the sniper shootings in the area. A tow-truck went onto the shoulder
from the right lane and Marks motorcycle hit it killing him instantly. Mark was with
the department of 16 years and leaves behind his wife, a 3 year old son and a 2 year old
daughter.

Catherine was a Senior Patrol Agent. She was killed in an automobile accident
when her Jeep Wrangler went over an embankment and rolled several times. She was ejected
and was found by a maintenance worker. Catherine had been with the agency for

Wasyl was killed in an automobile when he was enroute to lunch. He was struck
by a recycling truck and then pushed into the back of an oncoming pickup
truck, where he was thrown from the vehicle. Wasyl had been with the agency for 15 years
and leaves behind his wife.
James Shields

Age 35
James was killed in an automobile accident while he and his partner were chasing a
robbery suspect that had apparently gotten on a bus. While trying to catch up to the
bus another vehicle turned in front of them. James swerved to avoid the car and hit a
tree. His partner was also injured. James died of his injuries at the hospital. He
leaves behind his two sons.

there was a foot chase. The boy try to steal two vehicles to get away and was unsuccessful. He was chased into a nearby
park by fellow officers where he then committed suicide. Ronald was with the department for eight years.

Joseph was shot and killed while interrupting a robbery at a fast food restaurant. He was not on duty at the time.
He exchanged gunfire with the suspect and was shot in the chest. Joseph had been with the department for

David was shot two times and killed during an ambush while getting gas at a gas station. The suspect was arrested
a week later in New Hampshire and stated that he killed David to protests police brutality. The gas station was
frequented by department vehicles. David had been with the department for four years and was the departments DARE
officer. He leaves behind his wife and a 2 year old son.

head-on by a tractor trailer. The impact caused the van to go over a guard rail and land on its roof.

was a Trooper and had been with the Highway Patrol for three and a half years and was a former Enid police officer. He leaves

When she asked if the suspect was home he opened fire, shooting her in the head and in the torso.

Joe was shot and killed when he and his partner were investigating suspicious people
at a restaurant on the highway. They asked the four people to step out of the restaurant when one of them
pulled out a .45 handgun and shot Joe in the head. Joe had been with the agency for four years and was assigned to the
Street Crimes Unit.
