Bryan was shot and killed in a bank robbery. He was working special duty when a man opened fire on him. He was able to return fire but
the suspect escaped. Bryan was with the Department for 8 years.
Jerald Duane "Jerry" Moore

Jerry died unexpectedly. He was born in Mobridge, S.D. He served his country in the US Army from 1968 until 1971, which
included a tour in Vietnam. Jerry earned an associate's degree in criminal justice and a Bachelor of Science in
political science from Black Hills State University. He also graduated from the FBI National Academy. Jerry served as a
deputy sheriff with the Pennington County Sheriff's office for 27 years. He was also a teacher at Western Dakota
Vo-Tech in the Paralegal Program and served as the Pennington County Coroner for six years. At the time of his death,
Jerry was working for the Juvenile Services Center in Rapid City. He was a member of the Rapid City Child Protection
Council, Rapid City Peace Officers Association, Iowa sex crimes investigators association and the South Dakota Sheriff's
Association. Jerry leaves behind his wife, three sons, two brothers, his father and stepmother, his mother, and numerous
grandchildren.
Howard Stevenson
Ceres, California

Age 39
Howard died from gunshot wounds when he and other officers responded to a liquor store with reports of an armed man
acting strangely. As Howard got out of his patrol car the suspect shot him twice in the head. The suspect was killed
three hours later during a shootout with fellow officers. Howard was a Sergeant and with the Department for 20 years. He
leaves behind his wife, a son and two daughters.
Manuel A. Gonzales

Age 43
Manuel was stabbed to death with a shank by an inmate who had been permitted to leave his cell to
speak with other inmates about their complaints. A short time later a guard saw the inmate attack Manuel.
Manuel was with Department for Corrections for 17 years. He leaves behind his wife and five children.
Edward (Skip) Schroeder

Age 47
Skip died of a heart attack while jogging on an indoor track, doing mandatory training. He was a Deputy with the
Department for 18 months. Skip leaves behind his wife and mother.
Scott Armstrong

Scott was killed when his car was struck head-on by another vehicle being driven the wrong way on the interstate.
The other driver was also killed. Scott was with the department for two years. He leaves behind his son,
fiancé and parents.

Jesse was killed in a car accident when he was off duty but called back in to do paperwork for a fatal accident. He was with the Police
Department for six months. Jesse leaves behind his wife and two children.

George died from injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver while going thru an intersection on January 1.
George was off duty at the time of the accident. He was with the Sheriffs Department for 26 years the last 6 being a Deputy
Sheriff. George leaves behind his wife two sons and a daughter.
James Mitchell (Mitch) Prince

Age 36
Mitch was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect. The two were involved in a struggle and the suspect
got a hold of Mitch's gun and shot him three times. The suspect was later found hiding under a mobile home.
The county's grand jury was meeting on the same day to indict the suspect on first degree murder and 10 other
felonies within 13 hours of Mitch's murder. Mitch leaves behind his wife and two small children.
Matt Samuels
Greenwood County, Kansas
January 19, 2005
Matt was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant at a home. He was with the Sheriff's Office for 21 years and
was Sheriff for 5 years. Matt leaves behind his wife, son, and daughter.
Zackery Q.Julian
Galveston County, Texas

Age 32
Zackery was killed while off duty in an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle. He served 4 years in the United State
Navy and graduated from the University of Texas Police Academy in 1997. He was a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office
since September, and previously was an officer with the Texas City Independent School District police department for six years.
He had a T-Close Law Enforcement license and was employed by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department, assigned at Creekside
Intermediate School. Zackery leaves behind his daughter, girl friend, mother, father and two brothers.

Lloyd died of a heart attack after breaking up a fight between two boys in front of a school. He was with the
Castleberry ISD Police Department for 6 months, and previously served with the Westworth Police Department as
an auxiliary officer and full time officer for 7 years. Lloyd leaves behind his wife, son, and four grandchildren.

Age 47
James was killed when a man attempting suicide parked his SUV on railroad tracks then changed his mind and ran as the train
carrying commuters slammed into it. James was a Sheriff Deputy for 23 years and an expert with street gangs and worked in Admin.
at the jail. He leaves behind his wife and four children.

Jerell died after a lenghty illness. Jerell served with the Dallas Police Department for several years and even after becoming a full time pastor
in the Nazarene church he always helda special place in his heart for Police officers and actively supported them
any way he could.

Thomas died of injuries when his car hit an icy patch on the road and hit a concrete wall. He was thrown from the vehicle. He was responding to a
call which involved a suicidal man. He was a Detective and in law enforcement for 35 years. Thomas leaves behind his wife,
three daughters, two sons, and four grandchildren.

Age 55
Charles died suddenly. Charles became Deputy Sheriff for Kingsbury County in DeSmet, SD in 1989. He was later
elected to Sheriff for Kingsbury County and had held that position for many years. Charles will be greatly missed
by his department and the people of Kingsbury County. Charles enjoyed fishing and hunting as hobbies.
He leaves behind two sons and a daughter.

Anthony Lucas

Age 32
Anthony was shot and killed while assisting during a vehicle pursuit. Four juveniles fled into separate directions. When Anthony
went to the home one of the juveniles he opened fire with a shotgun killing Anthony. He had served as the part time police chief
and also as a full time parole and probation officer for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He was with the
Department of Corrections for 7 years. Anthony leaves behind his wife and 5-year-old son.
Wayne Koester

Age 33
Wayne was shot and killed when he and two fellow deputies responded to a domestic call. Upon contacting the female who called,
the deputies searched for a male suspect. While returning her back to the house the male ambushed all three deputies with a
shotgun, wounding all three. Wayne died from his injuries. Suspect was captured after a massive manhunt that ended on the same
day. Wayne had only been with the Sheriffs office for nine months. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

Michael was killed when his car left the icy road and hit a utility pole. He was a Sergeant for Airport Authority.
Molly Suzanne Bowden
Columbia, Missouri

Age 26
Molly was shot in the neck and shoulder three times during a traffic stop. She died a month later.
The suspect also shot and wounded a second officer while he was staking out the suspects mother's home.
The suspect then committed suicide. Molly was with the department for 3 1/2 years. She leaves behind
her husband, whom is also an officer, two stepsons, parents, and brother.

Jehova was killed on his way to work in an early morning auto accident. He was on his way to work on an overtime shift when the man behind the wheel
of an SUV who had been drinking plowed thru a stop sign and struck his two door honda civic. He fled the scene and about 5 hours later arrived at
Brookdale Hospital where he collapsed and fell into a coma. He was arrested and charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Vehicular Manslaughter
in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, three counts of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence
of Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, Unlicensed Operator, Assault in the Second Degree, Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree,
and four counts of Assault in the Third Degree. Jehova was with the department for three years and was assigned to Brooklyn's 75th Precinct.
Jehova left
behind two very loving parents, three siblings his entire family and a very loving fiancee.

James died from injuries he received a month prior when he was hit by a car that was stolen and being persued by the
Alexandria Police Department. James was not aware that the chase was taking place and walked out of the control booth
at the bottom of an exit ramp trying to tell the suspect to stop when he was driving the opposite direction on the interstate.
He had been with the agency for twelve years. James leaves behind his wife and daughter.

Arlin McClendon

Arlin was shot in the stomach and killed while trying to pull a joke on a longtime friend and co-worker in an area where two dozen
car-jackings have occurred in less than a year. He was driving when he saw a vehicle that belonged to his friend and tried to attempt
to pull it over. He did not know his friend's wife was driving the SUV with the couple's 4-year-old child. Arlin's friend was in a
third vehicle ahead of them. Once the vehicle stopped, as a joke, Arlin ran up to it and started pounding on one of the windows
and pulling on the door handle. His friends wife didn't recognize Arlin. The friend also not recognizing Arlin in the dark, and
thinking his wife was being carjacked got out of his car and shot Arlin. Both men were Corrections Officers and had worked at the
jail with each other since 1992.
Blake Gammill

Age 30
Blake was shot and killed while making an arrest of a man suspected of child molestation. He and other deputies went to the mans
home and the man's father came into the living room, shooting at the deputies. Blake was shot in the face. The other deputies
returned shots, killing the father. They arrested the man they originally went to the home to arrest. Blake was a Deputy with the
Douglas County Sheriff's Office for 8 years. He leaves behind his wife and two young children.
Eric Jay Van Fossan

Age 38
Eric died from a heart attack immediately after he and other officers struggled with a suspect during a domestic disturbance.
They were forced to use pepper spray on the suspect and after handcuffing the suspect Eric collapsed. Eric had been with the
Police Department for 11 years. He leaves behind his wife, who serves as a reserve officer with the agency, and three children.

Age 34
Mark was killed in an automobile accident when he was responding to backup an officer who needed assistance at a local restaurant.
He lost control of his patrol car, went off the road and struck several trees in the median. Mark was with the Police Department
for 3 years. He leaves behind his wife, son, and two daughters.
Jim Matkin

Jim was killed when his car went out of control and hit a tree. He was on duty at the time. Jim was a Senior Agent with the
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for six years and assigned to the Enforcement Division Statewide Strike Force. He
leaves behind his parents, two sisters, and a step-son.

Peter was shot and killed when he entered a quonset with three fellow Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The four officers were
assisting with a court order to seize stolen property. A search warrant was issued where they found evidence of a marijuana
growing operation. The suspect and all four RCMP were found inside the quonset with gunshot wounds. Peter was born in Petrolia,
Ontario. He joined the Force at Stony Plain, Alberta. Upon completion of training at Depot in Regina, Saskatchewan,
on November 27, 2000. Peter was posted to “K” Division, Alberta, namely at Mayerthorpe Detachment, where he worked in General Policing and Highway Patrol.

on April 17, 2001. Lionide was posted to “K” Division, Alberta, namely at Mayerthorpe Detachment, where he worked in First Nations Policing and General Policing.

John was killed in a helicopter crash while conducting a prescribed burning operation in the Sabine
National Forest. He worked with the forest for twenty years, and was a helitack base manager for the
Mi-Wok Ranger District, managing as many as 14 firefighters during the fire season. John leaves behind wife, son
and a daughter.

Charles was killed in a helicopter crash while conducting a prescribed burning operation in the Sabine
National Forest. He was the fire management officer for the Sabine National Forest.
Hoyt Teasley

Age 43
Hoyt was shot and killed while pursuing a suspect who murdered a Superior Court judge in the Fulton County Courthouse.
The suspect was being chased by Hoyt and shot Hoyt in the abdomen several times. Hoyt was not wearing a vest. Hoyt was
a Sergeant with the Sheriff's Office for 18 years. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

David was shot and killed after being confronted at the construction site of his new home during the evening by the fugitive
that killed Hoyt Teasley. Identifying David as a federal agent and after killing him the fugitive stole David's service weapon,
badge, and personal vehicle. Opinion is that David knew the fugitive was wanted for the earlier murders and attempted to
take action against him. David was an Assistant SAC with the Customs Service for 18 years. He leaves behind his wife and brothers, one of whom is
also a special agent for the agency.

James died of injuries when he was hit by a car. He had just finished his shift and was on the way home when he came upon
a disabled vehicle. He was hit as he was directing traffic around the vehicle. James was a Deputy with the Sheriff's Office
for 4 years. He leaves behind his wife and two young daughters.
Jackson V. (Jack) Lone

Jack drowned when he fell into a lake waterway while attempting to tie up a drifting tugboat. His partner realized Jack had
fallen into the water, suited up and dove in. Jack was found in 6-feet of water. CPR was performed until rescue units
arrived, but Jack died a short time later. Jack was with the Police Department for 18 years and assigned to Harbor Patrol
Unit for 5 years. He leaves behind his wife and 18 month old son.

Thomas was shot and killed while trying to peruse a suspect that had just committed a carjacking. A witness said that after
being shot he still would not let go of his pistol and was trying to stand up. He was not wearing a bullet proof vest because he was attending training at a softball
complex for a weekend assignment. Thomas was a motorcycle patrol officer and with the department for 9 years. Thomas leaves
behind his wife who is also an officer and three young children.

Michael was killed when his SUV went off a roadway on a curve during a severe snow storm while returning from an investigation.
He had been with the Police Department for 7 years.

Drew died from a heart attack after chasing two suspicious persons. He collapsed during the chase. One of the suspects was
later found to have assault and battery charges on him in another state. Drew had been with the Police Department for three years.
He leaves behind his wife and four children.

Carl was shot and killed in an ambush in front of his home after completing his shift. Reports say he may have been
murdered because of a previous case he had been involved in. Carl was a Sergeant with the State Highway Patrol for 12
years. He leaves behind his four year old son and his parents.
Peter Grignon

Peter was shot twice in the head and neck while responding to a call where a car was seen driving through a homeowner's
yard. When he found the car burning nearby, he was confronted by two subjects. After shooting Peter one of the suspects
committed suicide, the other was arrested. Peter was with the Police Department for 2 years. Peter was killed three days
after his first wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his wife and parents.

Jesse was accidentally shot and killed while conducting a training exercise. He was with the Police Department for 8 years
and prior was as a police officer in New Jersey. Jesse leaves behind his wife, son and a daughter.

Kevin was shot and killed while making a traffic stop, the suspect fled but was apprehended several hours later.
Kevin was a Sergeant with the Police Department for six years. He leaves behind his wife and four year old

Steven was killed when he lost control of his car while answering a call to a disturbance call at a restaurant.
His car flipped on its side and hit several parked cars. He may have been trying to avoid someone crossing the street.
Steven was with the Police Department for 5 years. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
Kurt Ford

Age 38
Kurt was shot and killed when he responded to a call of a young girl saying her mother was being beaten.
Kurt went to the home with a police detective, they heard a fight taking place in the home and both rushed in and
encountered gunfire. Kurt was killed and the police detective was shot four times. The suspect surrendered after 5 hours.
Kurt was a Deputy Sheriff and he leaves behind his wife and two sons.
Daniel P. Figgins
St. Charles, Illinois

Age 53
Daniel died from a fatal heart attack while in a foot pursuit to investigate suspicious activity at a High School.
When other officers arrived to assist they found Daniel on the ground. It was later determined that the school's sports center
had been accessed but nothing was missing. Plates from a car at the scene later resulted in five teens taken into custody
and charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. Daniel was with the Police Department for 27 years. He
leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

hold of his gun during questioning at the
police department. James was a Detective with the agency for 27 years.

Ralph was killed when his patrol car hit a truck that was pulled off the highway to help with a previous accident.
He was responding to search for a suspected who shot a sheriff's deputy. Ralph was a Trooper with
Missouri State Highway Patrol for almost 10 years. He leaves behind his wife and three children.
Larry Randolph Cox
Chillicothe, Ohio

Age 44
Larry was shot and killed when he became involved in a foot pursuit of a robbery suspect. He was not on duty at the
time. The suspect stole a a car and robbed a gas station an hour earlier. Larry noticed the suspect running while another
officer was chasing him. When Larry caught up to the suspect there was an altercation and the suspect shot Larry.
The suspect got away. Larry was with the Police Department for 19 years. He leaves behind his father, mother, wife and son.
Mark Cross

Mark was shot and killed when he and his partner approached a suspicious car in an area known for drugs
and violence. They approached the driver's side and the driver opened fire, killing Mark and wounding his partner.
A third officer returned fire, killing the suspect. Mark was with the Police Department for 6 years.
He leaves behind his wife and two children.

Larry died from gunshot wounds he received two days earlier while attempting to arrest two robbery suspects.
They had just robbed a supermarket and bank branch and were running from officers when they crashed their car.
They then fled on on foot. While searching for the suspect Larry saw one of them hiding in bushes. When he ordered
the suspect out of the bushes the suspect shot Larry in the neck and leg. Larry was on life support for two days
so his organs could be donated. He was with the Police Department for 5 years. Larry leaves behind his wife,
who
is with child.

Tony was killed when he lost control of his car, rolling it several times and being thrown from the car. He was on his way
home after an investigation. Tony worked for the Illinois State University Police Department narcotics unit. He was with
the agency for 5 years. Tony previously served with the Robbins Police Department. He leaves behind his wife and four children.
Harold Loyd Thorne Jr.

Age 52
Harold died from a heart attack after completing a physical agility test. He was sworn in as an officer 6 days earlier and was previously
a reserve deputy for Choctow County Sheriff's Office along with his bloodhound, Shadow. Harold leaves behind his son, daughter,
parents, sister, and three brothers. His son is also an officer with the Police Department..

Tommy was killed when a person he stop to question got away from him and got into Tommy's patrol car and drove the car onto the
sidewalk striking Tommy. Tommy was thrown into a fire hydrant and died at the scene. The suspect was apprehended. Tommy was with the
Los Angeles International Airport Police Department for 4 years. He leaves behind his father, stepmother, and brother.

Byron was killed in a car accident when the car he was in crossed the median, hit an SUV head on, was hit by another car and then
burst into flames. He and another deputy were in pursuit of a garbage truck driver involved in an earlier assault. Byron was a Deputy
with the Sheriff's Department for 18 months and was previously with the Department of Probation and Parole. He leaves behind his
fiancé, brother and mother.

Gerald was shot and killed when he was involved in an undercover prostitution case vice investigation. He and his partner encountered
two men near a bar who were talking with bar patrons, possibly setting up a robbery. They told the men to move along and both officers
went to their own cars. Gerald was confronted y the men who pulled out
a gun and shot him several times. His partner returned fire but the
men got away and were found later in the day. Gerald was a Sergeant and with the Police Department for 16 years. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
Mariano (Rocky) Lemus

Rocky died from hepatitis C, he was exposed to it dealing with people infected in it while enforcing drunk driving and he once had
been bitten by a man infected with the disease when he answered a domestic violence call. Rocky was diagnosed with the late stages
of the disease in 2004. Rocky was a Deputy Sheriff serving with the Sheriff's Office for 14 years. He leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.

Donald was shot and killed at a rental hall when he and another officer in uniform were working an off duty job at a private party.
A man came up behind them and shot them for an unknown reason, the other officer survived. The event was just ending and suspect fled
the scene. Donald was a Detective with the Police Department for 12 years and worked with the Fugitive/Bomb Unit. He leaves behind his wife and
two young daughters.

LaVern was shot and killed when he and his partner went to an apartment to interview a woman and her mother.
LaVern went to the front door, his partner to the back. When his partner heard shots fired he ran to assist and an armed man shot LaVern's
partner in the leg. When back up came they found LaVern shot on the stairs. He was a Detective with the Police Department for 20 years.
LaVern leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Andy shot and killed when he pulled a car over to conduct a traffic stop. He called in the make of car and license and was never
heard on the radio again. A passerby found him laying in the road, he had been shot in the head. The suspect was a parolee and
after a manhunt was accomplished he shot himself, surviving the gunshot wound he's been charged with murder. Andy was a Deputy
with the Sheriff's Office for three years.

and Porter County, Indiana, Sheriff's Department for seven years. He leaves behind his wife, two daughter and two sisters.

Gabriel died when his 9mm Glock service pistol was accidentally discharged and a round struck his hand and
passed through it hitting him in the leg. He had been with the Arizona Department of Corrections for 13 months.

John was killed in an car accident while responding to a disturbance call. On the way to the call another deputy
saw a car driving on the wrong side of the highway. The deputy radioed John to warn him, but he was unable to avoid
the car and was hit head on. Both vehicles burst into flames. The other deputy in the car with John freed
him from the car, but John died at the scene from his injuries. John was a part-time deputy and with the agency for 11 years.

Steve was shot and killed when he and two officers stopped a suspicious vehicle. The three suspects left the vehicle and
fled to an apartment building. Steve chased one of the suspects behind the building where they exchanged gunfire.
Steve was with the Police Department for 15 years. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Steve leaves
behind his wife, son, and daughter.

another Deputy. He was ejected from his car. The Deputy he was responding to arrived to help with CPR but Greg

Jerry was shot and killed when he had gone to an apartment complex to talk to a woman about a shooting that had taken
place the previous day. The suspect from the previous day arrived and shot Jerry in the head. Deputies found the suspect
hiding in a bathtub a few hours later. Jerry was with the Anti-Gang Unit and the Sheriff's Department for 15 years. He
leaves behind his wife, two sons and mother. Note: Jerrys brother in law, Manuel A. Gonzalez, was stabbed and killed
by an inmate at the California Department of Corrections on January 10, 2005.

James was shot and killed with his own service weapon. He was returning a juvenile prisoner to the jail after a court
appearance. The juvenile jumped from the back seat to the front seat of the car and gained control of James gun shooting
him in the arm and stomach. Suspect is being charged with six counts including capital murder. James was a Deputy with
the agency for 16 years. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and six grandchildren.

Denise was shot and killed by her husband whom she had a protection order from. Her husband also shot and killed Denise's father and
then killed himself. Denise was a dispatcher with Tipton County Sheriff's Department. She leaves behind two daughters, ages six and four.

William was shot and killed while answering a call to fireworks going off behind an apartment building. He approached a man
who was acting strange but whom was not shooting off the fireworks and the man shot William in the face. William was a Sergeant
and with the Police Department for 24 years. He leaves behind his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Tom was fueling his police vehicle when the attendant asked for help with a disorderly man. He struggled
with the suspect and eventually placed him under arrest. He called for backup and placed him in the
vehicle. On the way back to the station, he complained of not feeling well. He got back to the station and
collapsed. CPR was performed but he died at the hospital a few minutes later of a heart attack. Tom was a Senior Investigator
and with NYSP Troop L. He was on the job for 33 years and due to retire in November. He leaves behind a wife, 2 stepsons, 2
grandchildren, a brother, 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Todd was struck and killed by a semi truck that veered off the highway as he was standing in the safe zone. Todd had been with the
Tennessee Highway Patrol for five years. He also had served with Maury and Dickson counties. Todd leaves behind his wife and twelve

Joseph was killed when the helicopter he was piloting had mechanical failure and made an emergency landing on a hilly area.

Roy was shot and killed when he responded to a call by a crop dusting pilot of a person shooting at his airplane. When he and
two other deputies went to the scene, they found a homeowner armed with several firearms. They ordered the man to drop his
weapon but he opened fire and killed Roy and slightly wounded another deputy. The deputies returned fire and killed the suspect.
Roy was a Sergeant with the Sheriff's Department for 9 years. He leaves behind his wife and son.

Owen was killed when the patrol car he was riding in collided with a second patrol car during a vehicle pursuit.
The collision also caused the patrol cars to crash into a house. Owen was with the Police Department for only 4 months.

Duane was shot and killed after approaching a car to break up a fight between two girls outside of a High School. While he and
another officer were talking to the two girls two men drove up in a car, one who was the brother of one of the girls. They
opened fire, shooting Duane in the head and his partner in the hand. Duane returned fire and shot one of the suspects in the
stomach. Duane was with the Newark School District Police for 3 years and worked a second job with the Newark Housing Authority
Police for 4 years. He leaves behind his wife and several children.
